FHN Financial PM Economic Comments: Thursday, April 2, 2020

Just a quick note this afternoon. Tomorrow’s weekly will include an overview of the week’s data and what it says about the economy. The gist is that claims rose 10 million in two weeks and are on track toward the kind of unemployment that could boost the jobless rate to 15% by April. That’s consistent with some of the uglier GDP and unemployment estimates out there. The good news is, unemployment and GDP will beat those expectations if Americans start returning to work in the next two months, which seems likely. Maybe not in April, but by May, many should be able to return.
